There are two main types of safety glass commonly used in commercial and some residential applications – tempered and laminated glass. Tempered glass is a heat-treated glass which makes it 4-5 times stronger than regular annealed glass, and shatters into tiny pieces when broken (so that no pieces are large enough to hurt anyone). Laminated glass is 2 thinner panes of glass bonded with a plastic interlayer, holding it together in the event of a breakage.
We can offer heavy duty polycarbonates instead of glass. The material is extremely durable – approximately 200 times more resistant to impact than annealed glass. However, polycarbonate is a plastic and can still be vandalized by etching or melting.
Foggy glass, or moisture build up inside the glass unit is signed of failed glass. Unfortunately, it looks unsightly, and the glass has lost its insulation value. April Glass can replace the glass inside the existing window frames with new sealed unit glass. This is often much cheaper than replacing the entire window.
Low-E (low-emissivity) glass has a special coating that reduces infrared and ultraviolet light, improving energy efficiency by keeping heat in during winter and out in summer.
No, we don't have any April's in the family! The truth is that when April Glass started in the 1980s, a lot of businesses relied on the phone book for advertising. It was very important to have an "A" at the beginning of the business name to be closer to the front of phone book section! This was the guiding factor to pick a name like April Glass. Today, we rely a lot less on the phone book, and a lot more on building trust with our customers.

If your windows are leaking, we can provide a quote to repair or replace them. However, this sensation can sometimes be explained by a process called a convection current. When there is a large temperature difference in an enclosed space, convection currents naturally occur. Warm air, being lighter, rises and moves along the upper part of the room toward the window. When it reaches the cooler surface of the window or door, the air loses heat and becomes cooler. Cooler air is denser, so it sinks down along the cold surface and then moves back toward the warmer area of the room. This continuous cycle of rising warm air and sinking cool air continues until the temperature in the room reaches equilibrium. As a result, someone standing near the window may feel air moving downward from above the window, across the floor, and away from it. This can feel like a draft entering through the window, even if there is no actual leak. This movement of air is known as a convection current.
We do not offer window tints in house. We do recommend the experts at Ace Clear Inc for your commercial or residential tinting or security film needs. Please go to aceclear.com to learn more.
